Provided is a polarizer including a non-polarizing portion that makes it possible to increase and enhance the functions of electronic devices, such as image display devices, wherein the non-polarizing portion has superior dimensional stability and external appearance. A polarizer according to the present invention is constituted of a resin film containing a dichroic material and includes a non-polarizing portion at a predetermined position, and the non-polarizing portion is a thinner portion that is thinner than the other portions of the resin film. In one embodiment of the present invention, the non-polarizing portion has a recess at which the surface on one face of the resin film is recessed, and the depth of the recess is not greater than 2 μm.
