The present invention relates to a device to detect a polarizing mutation from an optical waveguide, capable of detecting polarizing characteristics of polarizing light outputted from an optical waveguide depending on whether a substance exists on the waveguide or not and the quantity of the substance. The device is capable of detecting the polarizing characteristics of the polarizing light, outputted from an optical waveguide depending on whether a substance exists on the waveguide or not and the quantity of the substance, without an operating motor rotating a polarizer. The present invention includes: a light source generating part; an optical waveguide generating a phase change between two polarizing lights, caused by a change of a surface substance; a liquid crystal phase detecting element continuously rotating the polarizing lights outputted from the optical waveguide; a first polarizer filtering the polarizing lights outputted from the liquid crystal phase detecting element; and a detecting part detecting a real time change of the quantity of a detection target substance through the polarizing light, rotated by the liquid crystal phase detecting element, and the polarizing light outputted from the first polarizer. |
