摘要 A method for monitoring hydraulic fracturing processes and other microseismic events determines the position and azimuth of a seismic receiver 131. The receiver 131 is used to determine the directions of at least two seismic events 15 at different known locations. From this an estimate of the receiver 131 position is derived. The back azimuth of the seismic events 15 is preferably determined using the particle polarisation of seismic waves from spatially distributed seismic events. The method may include evaluating the circumferences of Thales' circles (figure 2) constructed using the known locations and the relative angle of incidence at the receiver 131 for a pair of the seismic events 15. The method is suitable for determining the position of sensors in the mining, nuclear, and waste storage industries.
