A compact heat exchanger system for a boiler has a central burn chamber (3) Surrounded by a water tank (2) and with U-shaped gas ducts (4) running to and from a boiler plate (5), from above the burn chamber to below the chamber. The cold water inlet (6) at the bottom of the water tank is provided with guide plates (8, 10) to direct the water flow and to prevent direct cooling of the bottom parts of the U-tubes, i.e. to prevent condensation. The upper, hot water flow is directed to the exit port (7) via upper guide plates (9).
