PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device of high-definition, high-intensity, and narrow directional characteristics, capable of being manufactured by a relative simple manufacturing process. SOLUTION: In this light emitting device, a light emitting section 44 is comprised of a lower electrode 20, an organic light emitting layer 40, and an upper transparent electrode 50 laminated on a light emitting body substrate 10. An optical waveguide diffraction gratings 67 for propagating light emitted by the light emitting section 44 are formed on a core layer 60 just above the light emitting section 44. An optical isolating diffraction grating 68 for isolating propagation of the light emitted by the light emitting section adjacent to each other is formed between the optical waveguide diffraction gratings 67.
