[Problem] To provide an energy-saving stirring device that limits the amount of heat that is generated, that is easy to maintain and easy to use, that is versatile with respect to the installation location and installation position thereof, and that makes it possible to adjust stirring capability. [Solution] A permanent magnet-type molten metal stirring device that is provided with: a support body that is capable of minimizing the transmission of heat from molten metal; a magnetic field device that is provided above the support body and that comprises a permanent magnet that causes a line of magnetic force to run vertically through molten metal; and a drive unit that is provided below the support body and that drives the molten metal using the line of magnetic force from the permanent magnet and current that said drive unit causes to flow through the molten metal. The drive unit is configured so as to comprise: a cylindrical drive unit main body that is attached below the support body and that comprises a passage that runs laterally in the lengthwise direction in the interior thereof; and a pair of electrodes that are provided so as to be exposed to the passage at positions that sandwich the passage in the width direction, and that are capable of causing a current that intersects the line of magnetic force to flow through the molten metal. |
