<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor for an electric power steering system and the electric power steering system capable of preventing any freezing lock by rapidly detecting the intrusion of water. <P>SOLUTION: The motor for the electric power steering system comprises a waterproof casing 50, and a water detection sensor 55 provided in the waterproof casing 50 to detect the intrusion of water. The water detection sensor 55 can be located in the lowest area in the waterproof casing 50.
