A message translation system, wherein the immediacy of a conversation between users who use different languages is maintained, the conversation being mediated by an instant messaging service. A communication terminal: transmits/receives message data to and from other terminals connected to the communication terminal via a network; determines whether a message indicated by received message data needs to be translated; commands an external translation server to translate the message indicated by the received message data when it is determined that the message indicated by the received message data needs to be translated; and outputs the received message data and/or translated message data, which is the received message data translated by the translation server, to an output unit such as a display. |
