<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device of an automatic transmission which can suppress transmission shock when the transmission is processed in gear change while reducing vehicle speed as with so-called power-off down-shift. <P>SOLUTION: In such a way that when a gear change of the power-off down-shift operates, the possibility that a gear change demand further to a lower transmission stage (next transmission stage) side is estimated from vehicle reducing speed ratio, and when the possibility that the gear change demand to the next transmission stage is arose, engagement preparation hydraulic pressure support movement for gear change preparation to this next transmission stage is started.
