PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner which can collect dust efficiently without blowing away dust at the front corner of a suction tool for electric vacuum cleaners. SOLUTION: The suction tool has a suction chamber 9 formed inside the suction tool, a rotary brush 10 which is so arranged as to rotate freely at a position that makes it approach the inner front wall of the suction chamber 9 in the diameter of rotation and an air path 13 provided between the upper part of the suction tool 1 and the suction chamber 9. The air path 13 is composed of an opening part 14 opened forward from the suction chamber 9 relative to the suction tool 1 and forward from the center of the rotation of the rotary brush 10 and an opening 15 made to communicate with the outside of the suction tool 1 at its rear. An adjusting valve 16 made movable to be closed or opened freely is built in the opening 15 and makes an outside airflow introduced from the opening part 14 turn to a carrier current to prevent the blowing away of dust otherwise caused by the rotary brush 10 against its action of blowing away dust at the front corner by a mechanical force, thereby accomplishing the efficient collection of dust.
