A centrifuge assembly separates coarse particles from sludge and waste water. The assembly has a housing (9) enclosing a shaft (8) with a helical profile (7) inside a sieve basket (6). The sludge and fluid moves through the shaft towards an end-plate (11). The basket and helical profile are cylindrical. The helical profile is sealed against the basket and end-plate by brush seals. The end-plate is spring-mounted. A gap separates the basket from the end-plate.
