A radiation image detection apparatus, comprising: an image receiving unit having a two-dimensional array of a plurality of pixels that generate electrical charges when being subjected to irradiation of radiation, the plurality of pixels including: a plurality of pixels for detecting an image; and one or more pixels for detecting irradiation; an image data generation unit configured to generate image data based on an electrical signal output from the respective pixels for detecting an image; an irradiation detection unit configured to detect the irradiation of radiation based on the electrical signal output from the respective pixels for detecting irradiation; a communication unit that transmits the image data generated in the image data generation unit; and a control unit configured to include a plurality of control modes including a photographing mode generating image data, an irradiation detection mode detecting the irradiation of radiation and a standby mode, wherein when the irradiation of radiation is detected by the irradiation detection unit during the irradiation detection mode, the control unit is configured to proceed to the photographing mode, when the image data generated in the image data generation unit is transmitted by the communication unit during the photographing mode, the control unit is configured to proceed to the irradiation detection mode, and when a predetermined time elapses after the proceeding to the irradiation detection mode, the control unit is configured to proceed to the standby mode.
