The structure has code traces extending parallel to one another in a direction. Individual traces have an absolute serial coding for the position measurement along a direction. The traces are arranged such that an absolute position of a scanning device is determined with respect to a code structure along different directions, from the combination of position measurement values obtained by scanning the section of the structure. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring the position of an object.
