The present invention provides a building block (300) for a multimedia system, which comprises a functional module (302) for processing a multimedia data; a switching module (304) coupled with the functional module (302), for switching the processed multimedia data to at least one port (306,308); and the at least one port (306,308) coupled with both the functional module (302) and the switching module (304), for inputting the multimedia data and/or outputting the processed multimedia data. The present invention also provides a streaming server and system made up of the building blocks.
