PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can record part of information scheduled for recording if only the part of the information is recordable, even when a recording medium has a length in a transporting direction shorter than a set value, and a determination is made that scheduled recording cannot be continued on the recording medium that is carried to a location where the next recording is to be carried out, at the time of detection of a rear edge of the recording medium by a detecting means. SOLUTION: According to the recording device, when paper feeding of a required feeding amount is started (Fig. 11(a)), and the rear edge of paper 18 is detected in the process of the paper feeding by the paper detecting sensor 26 (Fig. 11(b)), a determination is made as to whether scheduled printing on the paper 18 at a location at which the paper feeding is completed, by a recording head 15, is possible or not. If it is determined that the scheduled printing is impossible, the recording head 15 is idled to stop the scheduled printing (Fig. 11(c)). When the scheduled printing is stopped, if a determination is made that only part of a scheduled printing region is printable, printing of the printable part (printing area PA) is carried out while an area (masked area MA) other than the printable part is masked (Fig. 11(d)).
