Examples of the present disclosure relate to an apparatus for emitting light and a method for manufacturing the same. The apparatus comprises: a light emitting means embedded in an encapsulating medium, wherein at least a part of a surface of the encapsulating medium is configured to prevent a leakage of light therethrough. Some examples, though without prejudice to the foregoing, relate to an apparatus for use with a photoplethysmography sensor.
