PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission optical element which is provided with a uneven surface structure capable of being manufactured by a simple process, especially, a transmission optical element which can be used in an ultraviolet wavelength range. SOLUTION: In the transmission optical element having the uneven structure on the surface by which incident light is affected, a layer provided with the uneven structure is formed on at least one side surface of the substrate by a molding method. Transmittance of the substrate and the layer provided with the uneven structure at wavelength 360 nm is set to be≥90% and refractive index of the layer provided with the uneven structure at the same wavelength is set to be equal to or be less than that of the substrate.
