A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MATCHING A CONTROL WITH AN ICON

A user interface (28) uses color to match icons displayed to the user on a display (40) with one or more corresponding input controls (30). Text or graphic icons representing functions of a portable electronic device (10) are color coded, and the corresponding input controls (30) are illuminated in the same colors. By using color to match the icons with the associated control(s) (30), the present invention intuitively indicates to the user which controls (30) are associated with a particular icon.
