<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key enabling a user to easily confirm whether data has been read out from a contact IC chip or not and having high reliability of security. <P>SOLUTION: This electronic key 1 includes the contact IC chip 13 connected in series to first and second terminal members 11, 2. The data of the contact IC chip 13 is read by the current flowing between the first and second terminal members 11, 2. The electronic key further includes a LED 9 installed parallel to the contact IC chip 13 and lit by utilizing the current flowing between the first and second terminal members 11, 2 when the first and second terminal members 11, 2 are brought into contact with IC chip data reading means 14, 15, respectively.
