PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of suppressing abrasion of a lamp electrode by preventing temporary discharge from repeatedly occurring, and efficiently shortening a start and restart time.SOLUTION: An inverter for supplying a rectangular wave AC voltage to a lamp, detection means of a supply voltage of the inverter, and control means for controlling voltage supply of the inverter in accordance with a voltage value and a voltage waveform are provided. The control means has determination means for determining distortion of the voltage waveform, determination means for detecting the existence/absence of a non-load voltage based on the voltage value after determining the distortion, and a counter. The counter executes normal counting when at least a non-load voltage is detected. When the non-load voltage is detected and a distortion in a waveform is detected, the counter executes both normal counting and high-speed counting. Unless at least the non-load voltage is detected, the counter does not execute counting. When the number of the total counting reaches a prescribed value, the supply of a rectangular wave AC voltage is stopped. |
