Sintered iron alloy of improved density and hardness - - produced by sintering

The alloy is produced by mixing Fe, C and a metal carbide in powder form, heating the mixt. to a temp. at which Fe and C from a solid/liq. phase, which depends on the ratio of Fe:C. maintaining the mixt. which is simultaneously compacted, at that temp. to effect sintering and then cooling the sintered compact. Pref. the powder mixt. is filled into a ceramic mould in which it is sintered under a weight.
