Split moulds designed to seal and cut off part(s) of a thermoplastic parison, where the cut-off jaws comprise hard metal inserts mounted in cavities in the primary mould halves or base blocks and clad in a fusible metal with good heat conduction properties. Pref. the main cavity blocks are made of highly polished material such as stainless steel, whereas the jaw inserts are made of steel which can be rapidly hardened by heat treatment. Pref. the fusible setting for the inserts is molten tin. Esp. suitable for mould mfre. for below moulding. Allows optimum variation of metals for the conflicting requirements of polished or cutting surface in the mould. The cut-off jaws are readily replaced if worn, or may be changed for design reasons. The fusible setting ensures good heat transfer to or from the jaw faces to avoid local overheating and adhesion of the parison material against the jaws.
|
