Liquid crystal coatings - with good mechanical stability and colour effect

Permanent coatings of liq. crystals from a homogenous mixt. of a soln. of a binding agent in an alcohol or a ketone with a soln. of a liq. crystalline substance in an org. solvent. While the liq. crystal is protected against loss of activity due to atmos. action or soiling, the coating has improved mech. stability. There is brilliant colour play with no redn. of intensity of the optical effect as there is with encapsulation. The liq. crystals are esp. esters of cholesterol.
