Refining is carried out using a mixt. of powdered chrome ore and granular ore at a ratio of 20-50%, and adjusting the SiO2 content in the raw material so that the slag contains 35-45% SiO2. A V-A impedance between electrode and the sump of the furnace is chosen which lies above 1.6 x 10-3 OMEGA. Pref. the particle size of the ore mixt. is 10 mm. This produces a ferrochrome of low C content, and the method eliminates the necessity to remove S from the furnace. |
