Adhesively bonding a polyurethane to a rubber - with the aid of a polyisocyanate

A polyurethane is adhesively bonded to a rubber by first coating the latter with a polyisocyanate (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate) soln. placing a urethane prepolymer thereupon contg. a hardening agent, and then hardening the prepolymer so as to obtain a composite article comprising a rubber in the polyurethane stuck onto it. A hardened rubber (e.g. EPDM, SBR) having a roughened surface is used. The rubber component does not flow, warp or otherwise deform during processing.
