Aldehydes are prepd. from a gas from the autothermal cracking of petroleum, contg. 2-4C olefins, CO and H2, using as catalyst a complex carbonyl of rhodium modified by triphenylphosphine, pref. catalyst is used in an amt. corresp. to 50-1000 ppm Rh to reaction mixt., pref. in organic solvent. Pref. the gas is desulphurised before use in process. Process uses the "poor gas" from petroleum cracking after separation of acetylene. |
