A nuclear control rod comprises an absorber length in a guide tube and a coupling shaft connecting this to the control rotor winch-and-motor unit. This coupling shaft is considerably shorter than the shortest distance between the absorber and the nearest moving part of the winch-motor unit; it is connected to the winch-motor unit by an intermediate link; the coupling between the lower end of the link and the upper end of the shaft is actuated from the upper end of the absorber. The coupling is pref. a bayonet lock, the connecting link being secured against rotation by guides running on rails in the guide tube. The total length of rod to be handled outside the reactor is reduced, so that it is less than that of the fuel string. It is thus no longer than the factor which determines the height of the charge machine and the depth of the cooling pond.
|
