1394882 Collapsing cartons BELLMER K G MASCHINENFABRIK Gebr 1 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 35791/72 Heading B5D A machine for collapsing a carton of the kind having crease lines at approximately 45 degrees on a pair of opposite sides has folding devices that are moved simultaneously against all four carton walls. The cartons 25 lie along a pair of rails 2 and spindles 7, 8 carrying tracks 11, 14 each in the form of half a screw thread are rotatable so that the tracks engage and press down the carton walls. Spindles 7 are driven by a gear train and spindles 8 are driven by a chain drive from adjacent spindles 7. A shaft 18 and universal joints 17, 19 connect spindles 7 to the gear train 22-24. If a carton is warped a ring (33, Fig. 6) having a track that will bear on the top edges of a pair of opposite walls may be provided. The cartons are moved through the machine by a bar 32, Fig. 2, on an endless chain 31. To permit adjustment of rails 2 and spindles 7, 8 for boxes of different sizes the rails 2 can be moved away or towards one another by screw shafts 4 and the spindles are adjustable by screwed shafts 6 that move pushers 5 in which the spindles are mounted towards or away from the transverse centre line of the machine. The tracks 11, 14 could alternatively be solid helical bodies of a plastics material and the gear train 22-24 could be replaced by a chain gear. |
