A lightweight, compact electric drive unit (130) provides high reduction ratios for a bicycle, light electric vehicle or autonomous device. A cycloid gear reducer includes one or more cycloid gears (40, 41) within a housing (10). The cycloid gears (40, 41) interact with gear teeth (11) on the inside surface of the housing (10), and ride on a cam shaft (50) having eccentric lobes. Output pins (42) extend through apertures (40A, 41A) in the cycloid gears (40, 41), from an input carrier (43) to an output carrier (44). An electric motor (80) powers the cam shaft (50), while the output carrier (44) powers a drive train. |
