An inverter inverts one of two input signals and a switching matrix combines algebraically the inverted signal with the other of the two input signals in order to produce a third signal. A gate responds to a predetermined polarity relation between the third signal and the first of the two signals in order to produce an output signal. The second of the two signals can be inverted and a third signal is formed as an algebraic sum of first signal and second inverted signal multiplied by a predetermined value. The gate can have a first and second input and an output, the third signal being led to the first input and the second signal to the second input.
