Stainless steel troughs used in bleaching textiles with sodium chlorite particularly the parts exposed to chlorine dioxide vapour are protected using a hydrazine salt of 40% nonylphenoxyacetic acid and a buffer. In an example, 50 pts. (mol.) of hydrazine hydrate (64% anhydrous hydrazine) are used per 278 pts. nonylphenoxy acetic acid with sufficient water to give a 40% soln. of acid. The process is particularly useful in 'Pad-Roll' or 'J-Box' type appts. |
