Combustion chamber especially for piston engines - has special area bounded by heat exchanger

The piston is provided with a spherical depression in the centre of its crown the opening diameter being less than its axial diameter. The combustion chamber has a special area divided off by a heat exchange matrix consisting of a very high heat resisting material permeable to gas and preferably of sintered ceramic. The fuel is injected against the special area and vapourised by the heat or even partly ignited to spread out and mix with the combustion air outside the depression. The gas porous matrix is held in place by an insert screwed into the cylinder head and surrounding the injector nozzle.
