An intelligent gateway for use in an intelligent network for converting one protocol message format to another protocol message format, the gateway has a first interface connected to a source of messages of a first protocol message format, a second interface connected to a source of messages of a second protocol message format, and a conversion means located between the first and second interfaces for converting between the two message formats. The conversion means may be a look-up table.
