The mechanism is particularly for handling eggs, and has a number of supporting rollers arranged radially about an axis between the mouth for the incoming eggs and the inlets of one or more egg conveyors. The latter each convey the eggs in a row. The rollers perform a circular movement round the axis, and also rotate on their own axes. There can be a protective wall extending at least in a semi-circle round the outside of the rollers and in the direction in which they travel. The egg conveyors can be separated from each by partitions, with dividers at the inlet. A ring can be mounted underneath the rollers, in contact with them so as to cause them to rotate about their axes as they travel around.
