Each filter comprises a long cylinder with its diameter reduced at both ends. These are placed, side by side, in any number required to make a convenient package. Both sides of the package are formed by one sheet of a composite material, made from an outer layer of aluminium foil with an inner layer of heat weldable plastic, folded over to enclose the filters. Both sides are welded together over a wide area around the edges to form a flange. A vacuum operation excludes all air and moisture, this state being maintained by the impermeable nature of the packaging material.
