The vertical stiffness of the arm cross-section increases towards the front so that bending during ground irregularity occurs mainly at the rear. The variation in stiffness is achieved by variable cross-section and/or by providing a 90‹ twist part way along the length of the arm. Other embodiments show shoes which are non-adjustable Fig. 1 (not shown) or have long soles extending beneath the cutter fingers with an additional flexible support 11 at the rear Fig. 3 (not shown). The straw raising tube 14 may be omitted, Fig. 2 (not shown).
