Control of the optimum proportions of the components in complex organo-metal catalysts for prodn. of synthetic polymers, e.g. polyethylene, polybutadiene and esp. polyisoprene, during their recovery from solns. of cpds. of metals with variable valence states, and organo-metal cpds. is effected by measuring the dielectric constant of the catalyst. Enables the optimum proportions of the components to be accurately and rapidly controlled. Large scale recovery of catalyst can be automised. Protracted, expensive manual analysis avoided. Exact control of polymsn. processes.
