A device to accelerate or retard a twin shaft gas turbine in partic. a gas turbine for motorised vehicles has a compressor and compressor turbine gas production system as well as a power turbine coupled to the latter. The construction is such that the drive shafts (3, 14) of the compressor turbine (2) and power turbine (12) are firstly connected by a differential drive system (15). Secondly the turbine drive shafts (3, 14) are coupled through the differential (15) to an attached barking system (17). Thirdly the braking system (17) is connected to a control system which selects and controls the degree of coupling of the two drive shafts (3, 14).
