Phytin isolation - by extracting raw materials with acid, precipitating from the extract, and removing protein

In a process for the production of phytin from phytin-contg. raw natls. (esp. grist, rice bran and other food industry waste products) by extracting the raw matls. with an aqs. soln. of an acid, precipitating the phytin from the acidic filtrate and subsequently removing the proteins from the phytin with the aid of a denaturing agent, the phytin is precipitated from the acidic filtrate with a soln. contg. bicarbonate ions and as the denaturing agent there is used sulphur dioxide, ether or formaldehyde. The process is cheap and economic, and gives pure phytin suitable for pharmaceutical use.
