1388510 Ethambutol SOC FARMACEUTICI ITALIA 29 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 60096/72 Heading C2C (+) - 2,2<SP>1</SP> - (ethylenediimino) - di - butan - 1- ol or its dihydrochloride are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of (+)-2,2<SP>1</SP>-(N,N<SP>1</SP>-dibenzylethylenediimino) - di - 3 - buten - 1 - ol. This compound is produced by condensation of (+)- 2 - benzylamino - 3 - buten - 1 - ol with 1,2- dibromoethane. (+) - 2 - benzylamino - 3- buten-1-ol is prepared by resolving the racemate using benzoyltartaric or mandelic acid and the racemate is prepared from 2-chloro-3-buten-1-yl. N-benzyl-urethane by (1) treatment with excess alkali metal hydroxide in the warm or (2) treatment in the cold with an alkali metal hydroxide to form 3-benzyl-4-vinyl-oxazolidin-2-one which undergoes ring cleavage with excess alkalimetal hydroxide in the warm. 2-Chloro-3- buten-1-yl N-benzyl-urethane is prepared by condensation of benzylamine with 2-chloro- 3-buten-1-yl chloroformate which is prepared by reacting 1,2-epoxy-3-butene with phosgene. |
