PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane for an electrochemical type hydrogen pump or a water electrolysis device excellent in practical utility, which has excellent hydrogen barrier property and can achieve excellent proton conductivity, excellent mechanical strength, physical durability and chemical stability under a low humidification condition and humidification condition.SOLUTION: There is provided a polymer electrolyte membrane for an electrochemical type hydrogen pump or a water electrolysis device, consisting of an ionic group-containing aromatic hydrocarbon polymer and having proton conductivity per unit area under atmosphere at 80°C and relative humidity of 25% of 0.12 S/cmor more, proton conductivity per unit area under atmosphere at 80°C and relative humidity of 90% of 8 S/cmor more, hydrogen permeation degree under atmosphere at 80°C and relative humidity of 90% of 3.0×10cm(cms cmHg)or less, tensile breaking strength of a membrane with width of 10 mm under atmosphere at 25°C and relative humidity of 60% of 100000 N or more and tensile breaking elongation of 150% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
