Foods, which normally tend to demineralise dental enamel or which cause dental caries, are admixed with an L-aspartyl-L-phenyl-alanine Me ester (I), quantity of which is below or above the quanity required to impart the desired degree of sweetness. The foods are esp. beverages of low pH, esp. 5; and contg., for each 946 cc. of beverage, 0.015-0.15 g. equiv. edible food acid, effective flavouring and dye quantities and 25-100 g. sugar. (I), e.g., "Aspartam" (RTM), prevents dental caries and/or dental enamel demineralisation when consuming the foods described. The foods include bread, breakfast, cereals, sweets, carbonated drinks, fruit, ice-creams, fruit juices, desserts and puddings. |
