PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a pigment composition capable of extremely improving flowability of inks or coating materials containing pigments, inhibiting particle aggregation of the pigments and manufacturing colored articles exhibiting excellent glossiness and clarity with inhibiting generation of debris.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for manufacturing a pigment composition containing C.I. Pigment Red 177 including a process of desulfonation of a compound represented by the formula (1) in a reaction liquid containing sulfuric acid of 80 to 90%, a process of adding a basic pigment dispersant of 0.5 to 30 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the compound represented by the formula (1) to the reaction liquid and a process of inputting the reaction liquid into water.SELECTED DRAWING: None
