摘要 The electrode is made starting from a Ni substrate with pores of 0.1-2 (esp. 0.15-1) mm dia. The porous substrate is immersed in an acid soln. of metal salts, so ion exchange results in the codeposition of a mixt. of Pd, Pt and Bi onto the Ni substrate. The concn. of the acid soln. is such to produce a deposit of Pt + Pd of 3-6 (esp. 5) mg/cm2 of the substrate, with 30-80 (esp. 40-75)% Pt; and with 20-50 (esp. 30-35) % Bi w.r.t. the wt. of the Pt + Pd. An aq. soln. contg. 2-3% HNO3 or 1-3% HCl is pref. used to make the acid soln. The Ni substrate is pref. 1-3 mm thick and consists of at least one Ni mesh or, alternatively, of Ni fibres. Used esp. for the oxidn. of ethylene glycol (EGL) in fuel cells, where the electrode functions as an electro-catalyst. The electrode does not have a high noble metal content but has long life.
