Composite plastic panel for car canopies - with open-celled soft basic and rigid top layer of polyurethane foam

A laminate of polyurethane layers, specially to be pressed into shape as prefabricated canopies for motor cars, consists of a base layer of open-celled soft polyurethane foam. Rigid or semi-rigid polyurethane foam is sprayed on the base layer and pressed against it by a roll so that the rigid polyurethane penetrates into the open cells of the top layer and acts as reinforcement. The pref. thickness of the soft layer is 5-10 mm and that of the rigid layer 1-3 mm. A decorative strip (textile fibre mat, embossed plastic foil) can be applied in the same operation by the roll. Such a canopy is stable enough to be self-supporting even at roof temp. of 120 degrees C. It weights little and costs no more than the canopies consisting of PVC foil.
