Catalyst for the liquid phase telomerisation of 1,3-dienes comprises the reaction prod. of an allyloxyphosphonium salt (I) and a zero valent complex derived from Pd. (I) is pref. of formula (I). (where R1, R2 and R3 are H, Me, Et or Ph, and Y- is a non complexing anion such as perchlorate or hexafluorophosphate). The catalyst is partic. used for the telomerisation of butadiene, isoprene or piperiline by reaction with a telogen which is pref. an alcohol (esp. MeOH, EtOH and the propanols). The process leads to a one-step prodn. of terminal derivs. of dodecatetraene, hexadecapentaene, eicosahexaene, tetracosaheptaene etc.. |
