The hydraulic disc brake of Al.Alloy has a compact lightweight form. A caliper is used to mount hydraulically driven pistons in opposed pairs about the circumference of a disc (10), and is mounted on the rim of a road wheel. It has the form of a circular arc in elevation. Two jaws (14) of this shape constitute the caliper, each locating a pair of pistons (36,38) which straddle the radial bi-sectrice, and are connected by bolts (40-48) on the periphery. The bolts are locate at regular centres on a line which is parallel to and offset outside the disc edge (10). The piston centres (C1,C2) are offset radially outside the chord through the end bolts (40,42). The pistons move parallel to the disc axis to converge and grip the disc which is built onto the wheel hub.
|
