The time display of the electronically controlled watch is in the form of a quadratic or rectangular panel, which becomes continuously brighter in accordance with the passage of minutes and hours during the first half of the day, while becoming continuously dimmer in the same sequence during the second half of the day. The panel consists of twelve horizontal rows, one below the other, each containing 60 vertical brightening strips. Pref. the panel contains eleven horizontal grid lines between the rows and 59 grid lines between the vertical strips, or grid lines being of different colour from the panel proper. The panel may have an upper and lower horizontal edge strap, each having a numerical series of 0,5,10,15 to 60. There are one or two vertical edge straps with markings for the horizontal rows.
