1462585 Suction pick-up tool W S FORTUNE 22 May 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 22050/75 Heading B4W A suction pick-up tool, e.g. for picking up molten solder in the desoldering of electrical items, comprises a body member 10 having a cylindrical portion 12, a tip 20 forming a nozzle at the forward end of the body and a semicylindrical extension portion 18 at the rear end, and a piston assembly arranged to be cocked in a forward position and to fly back under the action of spring 80 to provide a vacuum impulse for picking up material, the piston assembly including a piston with 0-ring 46 in cylinder portion 12, a nozzle-cleaning rod 48 extending forwardly from the piston, a cocking plunger 54 extending rearwardly from the piston and terminating in a thumb-engageable cocking boss 56 and a resilient latching tongue 64 arranged to latch the piston assembly in the cocked position by engagement with a slot 24 in cylinder portion 12, release of the latching tongue being effected by finger pressure on trigger button 66. A pivoted cover 32 overlies the semi-cylindrical extension portion 32 and provides a pair of guide tracks 38 which are gripped by complementary portions 58 on the cocking boss 56 to guide the piston assembly in both its fly-back and cocking motions. Upward pivotal movement of the cover 32 can be used to force the piston assembly forward abnormally to release the tip assembly 20. |
