So as to generate protective gas from the off-gas of furnaces heated by radiant tubes (radiant-tube furnaces), there is burnt, in some of the radiant tubes of the furnace, a constant amount of fuel gas with a small deficit of air. Expediently, so many radiant tubes are employed in this manner that the constant amount of heat generated can be used to cover the heat losses of the furnace. The off-gas of these radiant tubes is then freed in a conventional manner of noxious constituents such as CO2 and H2O in a gas regeneration plant. |
